Trainee Quantity Surveyor & Graduate Civil Engineer Apprenticeship

Trainee Quantity Surveyor - Graduate Apprenticeship
  • Maintain Morrison Construction’s commercial processes and procedures and apply best practice and a continuous improvement approach, to maximise returns in terms of profit
  • Help identify, reduce and drive out unnecessary costs and inefficient activities
  • Ensure the prompt preparation and settlement of monthly sales invoices, including variations, claims and disputes
  • Ensure the production of accurate and timely monthly reports for use in managing the business
  • Ensure the production of accurate and timely project financial forecasts for use in setting targets and managing the business
  • Maintain robust, open and honest reporting structures and monitor resources and costs to ensure that the projects meet agreed targets
  • Develop a thorough and in-depth understanding of the contractual, commercial, insurance and legal processes relating to the projects to ensure that Galliford Try's position is protected
  • Assist the bid team in the preparation and pricing of tenders for new work if required.

  • £15,094 to £20,995 per year

  • Full-time (38 Hours)

  • Qualification gained: SCQF Level 10 (Honours Degree)
Project Delivery
  • Ensure that materials and sub-contract services are procured in an efficient manner with organisations that are capable of carrying out the work and in accordance with best practice, legal requirements and the Morrison Construction’s supply chain policy
  • Assist with preparation and analysis of works packages and prices, placing sub-contract/materials orders and processing invoices for payment
  • Participate in creating a safe working environment, whilst applying the principles of “Doing the right thing” in maximising value and profit.

Civil Engineer - Graduate Apprenticeship
  • Assist in site engineering control and setting out activities and provide information to operatives and subcontractors
  • Complete diary sheets along with any photographic evidence as required
  • Assist in material reconciliations
  • Ensure all surveying equipment is calibrated
  • Assist in carrying out as-built surveys on complete works and drawings
  • Support in producing 2D & 3D site sketches
  • Assist in maintaining quality records, ensuring all works undertaken in accordance with Inspection & Test Plans (ITP) and maintaining the as- built records
  • Assist in basic planning, monitoring & programming
  • Control and minimise waste on site
  • Identify/assist in introducing new processes, techniques and innovations on site
  • Ensure all company property under your control is taken care of and stored securely when not in use.

What Will I Learn?

As part of your Graduate Level Apprenticeship, you will attend Napier University on a part-time basis to study a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering. The rest of the time you will work onsite in order to gain site experience working as part of a larger site team, this will ensure you gain the relevant industry experience in order to enhance your degree learning.
