Tools For Life - Tool Library mentorship programme, recruiting NOW!
This programme is for one day a week, every week for a maximum of 6 months. It is for young people aged 18-25 (we can be flexible on the upper limit), are unemployed, and have a barrier to work (e.g. long term unemployed, person with a conviction, mental health condition). We want to help you to build your confidence, and help you on your way to work. The programme is funded by the tool library itself, so we do not HAVE to take anyone on, therefore it is important that young people understand there will be high expectations of them in terms of their committment to ETL and ultimately to themselves. Previous experience as a maker or carpenter is not important to us.
4th June 2019
Based at either our Custom Lane workshop in Leith, or our Tribe Porty workshop in Portobello.
Workshop basics, tool maintenance and use, basic carpentry.
Contact ETL via email@example.com initially. This will be followed up with a questionnairre and finally a meeting with ETL and a potential mentor.
The Edinburgh Tool Library is the first of it’s kind in the UK. We lend our members tools for DIY, gardening, decorating and machine repair, so that they don’t need to own them.
The Edinburgh Tool Library was established with three goals:
- Reduce our members carbon footprint, and promote sharing as an alternative to consumption
- Save all our members money, and give low income households access to equipment they otherwise couldn’t afford
- Create opportunities for unemployed young people with barriers to employment by pairing them with mentors
