Community Works - Care
The course is specifically designed to provide knowledge, experience and accredited training so that the participants will have the best possible chance of being offered a job with our recruiting employer. The course is open to residents of Edinburgh who are looking to work in care for the first time or returning to care after an absence.
To learn more about the employer you will have one and a half days shadowing existing staff and managers in an informal setting. Following this there will be guaranteed interviews.
The course will provide the participants an Award in Introduction in Care this covers:
- Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Level 1
- Health & Safety at Work Level 2
- Food Hygiene Level 2
- First Aid at Work qualifying to be an accredited First Aider
There will also be an Employability component to the course including, CV creation, Interview Skills and Interview Practise. All candidates will receive one-to-one assistance while attending the course and advice on how to complete application forms.
It is hoped that all graduates of the course will be taken on. In the unlikely event that this is not the case, a candidate will continue to receive ongoing one-to-one employability assistance.
Candidates will receive in work support for three months after their official start date.
All training will take place at Port of Leith Housing Association, 108 Constitution Street, EH6 6AZ.
About the job
Clients live within 5 minutes’ walk of each other or in the same purpose built complex. Recruits will be based either at Meadowbank, Clemiston or within 10mins walk of Edinburgh Royal Infirmary
The role is working with diverse age groups providing housing support and sometimes personal care to people with a variety of conditions. These can range from visual impairment, multiple sclerosis, physical disabilities, learning disabilities or age-related conditions. Home visits can range from a 15 minutes medicine check with a chat and a cuppa, to sessions that can last several hours depending on individual need. This might include;
Reading to a person Helping someone with their bills
Reminding a person to take their medication Light domestic work; hoovering and dusting
Taking someone shopping or other daily tasks of life Helping someone get up or get ready for bed
The Award in Introduction in Care starts 15th November – 17th December. The four-week timetable will consist of 3- 5 days training each week. This will include accredited care training, group and 1:1 sessions.
