We recruit Childcare Modern Apprentices on behalf of our own organisation and on behalf of various nurseries and out of school care settings in Edinburgh, We recruit on an ongoing basis throughout the year and applicants must be age 16-24 years. No experience is necessary however you will need to be friendly, caring and enthusiastic and to be able to communicate well with both children and adults.

If you successfully progress through our initial screening process, we will approach various Employers on your behalf to arrange interviews and work trials. We will support you to prepare for this by working with you to develop your CV and by helping you to understand what a Childcare Employer is looking for and how you can demonstrate that you have it.

Once you have secured employment, we will then support you to undertake your SVQ Level 3 Social Services Children and Young People @ SCQF Level 7 through our Modern Apprenticeship programme with the support and guidance of one of our experienced Assessors.

What does our Modern Apprenticeship programme in childcare involve?

A Modern Apprenticeship is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn. You gain the occupational experience you need by working in a childcare setting and you undertake the qualification required to become a ‘qualified’ childcare practitioner at the same time. The job will usually involve working full time hours and the salary will usually be set at the National Minimum Wage or above.

You will work alongside a team of colleagues to provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment for babies and children age 0-5 years (if you are working in a nursery setting) or 5-12 years (if you are working in an out of school care setting). Some examples of the things that your day to day job will involve include supporting your team to plan and implement stimulating activities for the children, supporting the children to learn and develop through play, keeping the children safe and well at all times, becoming familiar with and following the settings policies and procedures and assisting with snack and lunches.

The qualification can take up to 18 months to complete and is fully funded by Skills Development Scotland.

Your employer will support your learning by providing you with the opportunities and experiences required to enable you to develop your childcare knowledge and skills and to generate the evidence required to meet the standards within the qualification. Upon completion, you will be a fully qualified Childcare Practitioner able to register with the Scottish Social Services Council.
